Recipe Friday: Parsley Salad Parsley Salad
I made this for Durian Day after reading about how much that fruit can give you "death breath". Parsley is a natural breath freshener and this salad was a big hit. It's was mainly cobbled together from stuff I had in my fridge.

Book report: BPRD #1 Last night, for Comicazi Book Club (name still pending), we decided that each member would chose a book (graphic novel) and report on it back to the rest of the club. This would help us to learn more about the favorite books of each member. I was pretty gungho about this idea. Until I realized it was basically doing a presentation....
So because this felt more like public speaking then a usual meeting would, and because I hate public speaking (even though I was among friends), I wrote something up, which really helped.
I thought I would share, so see below for my book report on BPRD #1
Food Challenge: Durian! Durian Adventure
On Sunday a group of food adventurers gathered To try Durian "The King of Fruits". I was fairly nervous about this. Given all I had read, I was really not sure what to expect.....So let's get into it...

Recipe Friday: Real Deal Microwave Popcorn The Goog and I love popcorn. It's the snack of choice with us. While I think stove top is clearly the best method for popcorn, it's not something we do that often. That said, standard store bought microwave popcorn...it's just not that fantastic. It's too salty, too fake tasting...you get none of that good roasty corn flavor.

Wedding Stamp The Goog and I have been in the throes of wedding planning...picking vendors, managing expectations , it's all very mindless and a little messy. But we have tried to do a lot of stuff ourselves to make things a bit more personalized. One of these things was designing our own stamp to put on paper stuff (envelopes, place cards).

The Goog and I did a bit of planting this weekend. Our seeds were moved outside and some veggies were purchased and put out in pots as well.
This years crops look to be:
Chives (from last year)
Golden Thyme
Cilantro
Mint
Basil
Rosemary
2 types of tomatoes (cherry and yellow pear)
Lavender
Cilantro
Chamomile
And Broccoli!
Previous years ave brought varying success of our container garden. This year we are trying to employ some lessons learned, and well as try some new things, like the broccoli.
Smelts!
I like seafood, and have been trying to get comfortable with cooking fish. The Goog and I have pretty much mastered roasted fish and veggies, but one day while perusing the fish section of the local MB, a bag of smelts caught out eye. Smelts are a little white fish. When you buy them at the store they are come head removed and cleaned, but they still look like a body of a fish.
Amazingly, I'm not dead. I've got some explaining to do! BIG news. Updates forthcoming next week...I swear on Elise's life.
Back from the dead! Explanation of my missing in action status coming soon. It's not a total cop-out reason this time. Anyhow, it's time to talk about something important. Career goals. When we were kids, we all wanted to be something, and astronaut, a fireman, maybe even a ninja or a poledancer . Today we'll se some people with less...traditional goals.
The Way of the Warrior / It's ON! Some time ago, I saw a picture of a guy in a helmet jumping over fire. I then saw Words that spoke to my soul..free beer, bad ass medal, warrior helmet, the craziest freakin day of your life. As of last week, I'm IN! Signed up and no backing down. Let the warrior dance begin!
Not much to say this week. All I can say is that this man is not human.. He is some demon from hell or another dimension. Also, who ever considered this entertaining...also, don't let him near your kids. What is he laughing about?
Everyone knows that not only does the U.S.A have an easy name to chant at the Olympics, we have the best superheroes in the known universe. Our superheroes can fly, have super strength, heat vision and all kinds of other such powers. Or sometimes they're just freaks with tons of cash and nifty gadgets. Our superheroes are so cool in fact that they inspire filmmakers in foreign lands to make documentaries about them . The most popular subject is of course one of the most recognizable of all the caped wondermen. Superman!
Sometimes repetition is a good thing. Say when you're studying for a test or learn a new skill. It can help develop good habits. It can also drive you insane. I'm not sure if these fall into the good or bad category of repetition. Truly, only you can be the judge.
As some of you who were raised in the shadow of the papacy know, this is the first week of Lent. My understanding is that this is when Jesus said that it's ok to eat fish, because they don't have any feelings. He then went on to play a big practical joke on his friends by dying and coming back to life. Guilt mongers that they are, Catholics have a long standing tradition of giving up something for Lent. When you're a kid, it's something you love, like candy or transformers. Well, I'm going to give up not posting Friday videos......not sure that's a sacrifice, but whatever, bring me some fish, on with the videos. Read more...
I'm putting all my faith in the groundhog this year. That little bugger has predicted more winter(not a tough call) and for once, I almost hope he's right. You see, this year I got a good deal on snowshoes, but the necessary conditions, the confluence of a decent amount of quality snow and a day off, have not occured for me.
