This Saturday a faithful group of food adventures piled in the car and set out for culinary adventure. After a few wrong turns and GPS SNAFUs we finally arrived at our destination JnJ Turo Turo- a little family style Filipino restaurant in Quincy MA.
In our excitement our table of 5 pretty much ordered every special they has that day. These were brought to our table with a large steam bowl of rice. After some pausing for photographic evidence, we dug in.
Here are some of the table favorites.....
Sisig- This was a highlight for me. Especially since it's something I wasn't sure I would like give it contains liver. Description from the menu: Grilled and chopped pork, pork’s ears, and liver, seasoned with onions, hot peppers, ginger and lemon juice.**super authentic** Served sizzling. To me this was comfort food, which is weird since I have never had it before. Everything is diced up and there is a variety of textures (chewier liver, crunchier pig ears).

Kare Kare- From the menu: Beef chunks and tripe cooked in thick peanut sauce, topped with vegetables. Served with shrimp paste on the side. This was like a hearty bowl of savory peanut butter (a peanut sauce lovers dream), with tender chunks of meat and soft pieces of tribe....really soft. I was less crazy about the tripes consistency, but the dish was yummy!

Dinuguan- From the menu: Minced pork cooked and seasoned in pork’s blood. **super authentic**. Another table favorite. Check out the deep rich color! Another savory, and comforting dish with tender pork (we eat alot of pig that day).
Dessert- I had heard of Halo Halo but I had never tried it before. This dessert is largely made up of sweet fruits (baby coconut, banana, lychee ), beans (sweet red and white beans), and gloriously purple taro ice cream. I'm not a person who gets that amped up about desserts. Usually a bit or two and I'm good. But this little number is now ranked among the likes of "Jam Rolly Poly" for me. One bite and I was hooked. It was cool, sweet (though not overly), the flavor a bit custardy. For me, the combination was magic. Also...look how pretty!

It should be mentioned the staff at JnJ turo Turo were very kind, taking the time to explain things and answer our question about portions, ingredients and the dishes in general. A highly recommended restaurant...absolutely worth the drive!
